Notice how we always try to do things on our own? How some people would rather keep trying and trying and trying rather than ask someone else for help? (Granted, there are also people on the other extreme, who ask at the drop of a hat.)
Kinda makes you wonder whether sometimes we are relying on our own strength or on God’s. Ok, we all know that no-one passes the sin-free test, so that area’s definitely on His credit. But what about our everyday life? Our jobs and/or studies? Do we struggle through each day on our own, or do we let Him handle everything?
It’s hard to give up things, but that’s what God wants. He doesn’t just want commitment; He wants
surrender.
Everything goes to Him. (Now don’t swing to the other extreme and start playing away your time when you’re supposed to be doing something else…I’m sure that’s not what God intended either) But then what’s the difference?
The Titanic, I’m sure we all know thanks to Rose and Jack aka Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio, was the biggest ship at that time. Due to what was then technological advancements, it was Unsinkable, with a capital U. And through Hollywood, we also know that it sank. Compare that with Noah’s Ark. No technology. No engineers. No blueprints or fancy instruments. Just a really old man with some wood and a lot of animals. Didn’t help that everyone thought he was loco. But the ark took in a pair of
every animal on earth, and his family, and floated for
over a hundred days before settling nicely on the top of a mountain when the flood subsided. Titanic sank on her maiden voyage.
What’s the difference? Skill? The Titanic was built by professionals; the Ark by an amateur. Materials? The Titanic had steel and iron; Noah had wood, and he probably had to chop it himself. Manpower? I’m sure the Titanic had more than one person working on the hull.
The difference lies in the
source of strength. The Titanic’s creators relied on their own, while Noah relied on God’s. Sure, some people look like their able to get through life fine on their own, but are you sure you will? And even if you are, you think you’d pass the sin-free test in the life to come?
Guess it’s time to stop holding on to things and open our hands. Only when we open our hands and give up what we’re holding on, can God give us something else.
