One of the rare times that i can actually sit down and spend time doing absolutely nothing. Ok, ok, it's not that i don't have anything to do, i just forgot to bring it along with me. Plus the fact that i also forgot to bring my paper so i can't write letters or notes to people. But it's given me the chance to sit out and think about stuff. =)
With the society that we're in, being Singaporeans and all (though i never really subscribed to that ideaology), it's seems that
meritocracy is bordering on
elitism.
And yeah, DUH it bothers me.
I never liked the idea of classifying people into "good, better, best", though i totally agree with the spirit of competition. Healthy competition is necessary for people to move on to greater heights, but must it reach the extent that people are nearly against each other? It's nice to see a certificate of straight As, but to what extent do we derive the satistfaction from that? Does our entire treasure chest of joy rest on that? If it does...then what happens when we don't get it?
Reminded by Fong's blog that us humans can only concieve something that we've seen. Where then does the concept of eternity come about? Since the musical, the phrase "someone who struggles with the concept of eternity has the ability to turn the tides of time" keeps ringing in my mind. Without not doing our best on this earth, we have to strive for eternity.
I've come to realise that it's human to want for something. Nothing wrong with that. But when it comes to the crunch, God will be asking, "do you want me more than you want that? Do you love me more than you love that?". And i'm guessing that until He's convinced of that fact, He'll keep asking that question - surrender is a process.
And ultimately, when we bend to His will, He gives us eternity.
Nothing lasts beyond that.
